Sharon Small was born in Drumchapel, Glasgow, Scotland, in 1967 and is the eldest of five children. She enrolled in the same drama course at Kirkcaldy College as Ewan McGregor and Dougray Scott before leaving the seaside village of Kinghorn to go to drama school in London. She graduated from the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in 1989.

Though Sharon is currently known around the world as Barbara Havers on "The Inspector Lynley Mysteries" - a role which earned her nominations for Most Popular Actress and the Golden Satellite Award - she has numerous other film, television and stage credits on her resumé. Says Sharon, "In film and TV you can forget your place in the whole story, because of the way it is shot. Theatre helps you rework your storytelling and narrative skills."

Sharon's earlier work include leading roles in the BBC series "Sunburn" and "Glasgow Kiss" and the movie "Bumping the Odds" for which she won the Best Actress Award at the Edinburgh Film Festival in 1997. She also starred alongside Hugh Grant in ABOUT A BOY (Universal, 2002) and in DEAR FRANKIE (Miramax, 2004) with Emily Mortimer and Jack McElhone.

In late 2007, the BBC officially announced that "The Inspector Lynley Mysteries" had been cancelled, despite the protests of tens of thousands of fans from all over world. Sharon is now playing Trudi in BBC's new hit series "Mistresses," which will be back for a second season in 2009. She also has a small part opposite Dustin Hoffman in the forthcoming feature film LAST CHANCE HARVEY and stars in the new short film POP ART, scheduled for the London Film Festival in October, 2008.

Sharon resides in London with her partner and their two children.
