Sharon's Role Not So Small Daily Record, 20 January 2004 By Lee-Ann Fullerton & Beverly Lions SHARON SMALL is to star in the big new West End theatre version of When Harry Met Sally, playing Carrie Fisher's role as Sally's witty, waspish best friend Marie. The 36-year-old Glaswegian actress reveals: ''It's a bit scary but I'm looking forward to it. I've never done West End before. I've been at the Donmar and the National Theatre, but this is quite a challenge.'' She is currently in rehearsal for the play which opens at London's Theatre Royal next month and also stars Beverly Hills 90210 actor Luke Perry and Buffy star Alyson Hannigan in the roles created by Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. Sharon says she loved the original hit 1989 film When Harry Met Sally. She adds: ''This is a glam production and it's a good laugh to work with Americans. I love romantic comedy and it's very different from the roles I've been playing recently.'' Sharon is back on TV in March in a third series of BBC1's The Inspector Lynley Mysteries in which she plays a downtrodden working-class cop. Her next film role is opposite Emily Mortimer and rising star Gerard Butler in Dear Frankie. The movie, which is out this spring, was filmed in Scotland last April. She said: ''It's about family love and what you don't express and the nature of friendship.'' COPYRIGHT 2004 Scottish Daily Record & Sunday. |
